The Polish-Belarusian border - where humanity becomes a crime.

Documentary film Forest and discussion with activists of the Szpila collective

FREE ADMISSION

At the Polish-Belarusian border, an almost 200 km long, five meter high fence prevents people fleeing from seeking protection in the EU. Those who make it anyway are forcibly - and illegally - pushed back into Belarus. Even those who provide humanitarian aid are being targeted by the Polish state and criminalized. The Polish Szpila Collective is fighting back: it informs refugees about their rights, provides legal support and campaigns against the criminalization of solidarity-based aid.

In her film Forest, director Lidia Duda accompanies a Polish family in the border region who come across hungry, hypothermic and exhausted people. The family decides to help and almost breaks apart.

Following the film, two activists from the Szpila collective talk about their work and current developments at the border.

An event organized by Bündnis Sicherer Hafen Mannheim and Medico International e.V. in cooperation with Cinema Quadrat e.V.
