While the blurred photographs represent the fate of the tens of thousands of people who died in the Mediterranean, a fate that is given far too little attention and forgotten far too quickly, the poems by Flora von Herwarth and the compositions by pianist Aeham Ahmad search for the human contours - the hope and need that motivate people to flee and risk their lives. The three-dimensional work illuminates the Mediterranean as a mirror of ourselves, the consequences of colonial and isolationist policies and our togetherness as human beings on this planet.
