Seebrücke Paderborn is organizing the next vigil on Wednesday 04.03. at 17:30 in Westernstraße in front of the Franziskanerkirche.

The vigil highlights the human right that everyone has the right to a safe place. On Friday, the German government passed a law that makes it more difficult for people seeking protection to live in a place where they are not threatened.

Sea-Eye e.V. comments as follows: "Despite urgent warnings from children's rights and human rights organizations, the Bundestag today passed the GEAS Adaptation Act. This reform cements a course that seeks to combat migration instead of organizing protection in a humane manner. When people - even children - are de facto detained simply because they have applied for asylum, this is an attack on fundamental human rights and the rule of law, warns Anna di Bari, director of Sea-Eye e.V.

With the vigil, Seebrücke is also supporting the Seebrücke Moers petition, which calls for the continuation of financial support for sea rescue: We demand the continuation of financial support for civil sea rescue in the Mediterranean by the German government. The discontinuation of financial support for civil sea rescue causes us, Seebrück Moers e.V., great concern. Thanks to the previous support of approx. 2 million euros per year, civilian organizations have been able to rescue thousands of people from distress at sea in recent years. Everyone is invited to take part in the vigil and show their solidarity with people on the run.
