The reform of the Common European Asylum System will come into force in 2026. The tightening will not only affect the situation at the EU's external borders, but will also have a major impact on the German asylum system: the reception standards for unaccompanied minor refugees are at risk, more detention of people seeking protection is imminent, as are new camp systems to speed up deportations. The lecture presents these developments and discusses options for a human rights-oriented refugee policy.
Prof. Maximilian Pichl is a political scientist and legal scholar. He has been Professor of Social Work Law at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences since 2025.
