Judith Kohlenberger reports on the borders of Europe in her new book "Borders of Violence". With facts and harrowing reports, she reveals how the violence at the borders not only affects people seeking protection, but has long since reached into the very heart of our societies. In her interviews with border police officers, refugee aid workers, lawyers, pathologists and conscripts, it becomes clear how the indirect experience of physical and bureaucratic violence also changes us. This book takes an unsparing look at the effects of border policy on our life together at home. An urgent appeal for more democracy and humanity.
Judith Kohlenberger is a cultural scientist and migration researcher. She has been working on flight, asylum and belonging since fall 2015, among others at WU Vienna, the Austrian Institute for International Politics (oiip) and the Jacques Delors Center of the Hertie School in Berlin.
