Feminist perspectives on solidarity in the asylum process - stories of resilience and resistance with

Lucy Ng'ang'a, Jackline Gathoni, Janina Rost.

People flee from war, political persecution or hunger; the causes of flight are manifold, there are many more to name. Women in particular are exposed to additional dangers of sexualized violence when fleeing. Once those seeking protection have arrived, they are exposed to racism and social exclusion even in supposed safety. The isolating and racist structures of the asylum procedure have a profound impact on those affected. Refugee women experience these multiple times - at the intersections of racism, sexism and social exclusion. Women with experience of flight and migration have long been organizing themselves together with support structures in order to counter these mechanisms of oppression through lived solidarity.

In times of ever more restrictive asylum and social policies that increasingly disenfranchise refugees, migrants, the unemployed and other marginalized groups, a feminist perspective on solidarity is not only important, but necessary.

Activists Lucy Ng'ang'a, Jacky Njoki and Janina Rost will present feminist and anti-racist approaches to solidarity in the asylum process and share their experiences in order to open up spaces for action together.

Together with the regional group Aschaffenburg-Miltenberg (AB-MIL), Seebrücke Aschaffenburg invites you to the lecture Feminist perspectives on solidarity in the asylum process - stories of resilience and resistance. The event is in English, with German translation.
